Privacy Policy
Version 2026-10-17
Draft for review. Fill in the items in [square brackets] and have a lawyer check this before launch.
The short version
- Brainnic is for parents and guardians. Children don't have their own accounts.
- We collect only what we need to make quizzes and show results: your email, your child's first name, buddy picture and class, the notes you give us, and quiz results.
- We never sell your information and we never show adverts to children.
- You can download everything we hold or delete your account at any time from the Privacy & data page.
Who we are
Brainnic is run by [Your business name] ("we", "us"). For any privacy question, contact us at oluwafolakemiolanrewaju@gmail.com.
Who can use Brainnic
You must be 18 or over, and be the parent or legal guardian of any child whose details you add. A child uses quizzes under your account and supervision. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children.
What we collect
- Your account: email address and a password (stored securely by our sign-in provider, never in readable form).
- Child profiles you create: first name, a buddy picture (an emoji you pick) and class or year. Nothing else, and no photos of children.
- Study material you give us: the notes you type or paste, and the text we read from any photo or PDF you upload. We do not keep the photo or PDF itself after reading it.
- Quizzes and results: the questions we make, your child's answers, scores, and how many times the quiz window was left during a quiz (the "focus report").
- Tutor chat: the questions you type to the tutor. Your chat is not saved on our servers once the page is closed.
- Parent PIN: the 4-digit PIN you choose to protect answers, billing and account settings from children. We store only a scrambled (hashed) form of it, never the digits, and a count of wrong tries.
- Stars, streaks and badges: worked out from your child's quiz results when you view them. Nothing extra is stored for this.
- Question reports: if you report a question, we keep the report and your note so we can fix it.
- Weekly progress email (only if you turn it on): we use your email address to send a short weekly summary of your child's quizzes. You can turn it off on the Privacy & data page or with the link in every email.
- Usage counts and error records: which features are used (for example "a quiz was made") and short error messages, so we can keep Brainnic working. These never include notes, answers, or your child's name.
- Payments: your wallet balance and payment history. Card and bank details go straight to our payment providers; we never see or store them.
- Basic usage records: how many photo reads and chat messages you used today, so we can apply fair-use limits.
- Your choices: when you accepted our Terms and Privacy Policy and the child-data consent, and which version.
Please don't include photos of people, or your child's full name or school, in the notes you upload.
Why we use it
- To create quizzes from your notes, mark them, and show you the results (to provide the service you asked for).
- To run your account, free trial and wallet.
- To help you understand your child's progress, including the tutor chat.
- To keep the service safe and prevent misuse.
- To meet legal obligations such as tax records.
Where the law asks for consent, we ask for it separately: once for the Terms and Privacy Policy, and once before you add a child. You can withdraw consent by deleting your account.
Who we share it with
We use trusted companies to run Brainnic. They may only use your information to provide their service to us.
- Supabase: sign-in and our database.
- OpenAI: the AI that writes questions, checks each question's answer a second time, reads photos and PDFs, and powers the tutor. Your notes, uploaded pages, and (for the tutor) your child's first name, quiz scores and wrongly answered questions are sent to it so it can reply. See OpenAI's privacy policy.
- Stripe and Paystack: taking payments.
- Resend (or our chosen email provider): sends the weekly progress email, and only to parents who turned it on.
- Our hosting provider: [name your host, e.g. Vercel], which delivers the website.
We do not sell personal information, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not use advertising or tracking cookies. We may disclose information if the law requires it.
Moving data between countries
Our providers may process data in other countries, including outside your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for those transfers. [Confirm the regions you have chosen for your database and host.]
How long we keep it
The text of your notes is kept for 30 days after you add it, so you can make new questions from it, and is then deleted automatically. The questions and results stay until you delete them or your account. We keep the rest of your information while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, children, notes, quizzes, results and reports. Usage counts and error records contain no personal details and are disconnected from your account when it is deleted; we keep them for [state how long]. Copies in backups are removed on a rolling basis [state your backup period]. Our payment providers keep their own payment records for as long as the law requires.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:
- show you the information we hold about you and your children,
- correct it,
- delete it,
- stop using it, or give it to you in a portable form.
Most of this you can do yourself on the Privacy & data page: download your data, or delete your account. For anything else, email oluwafolakemiolanrewaju@gmail.com. You can also complain to your data protection authority, for example the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, the UK Information Commissioner's Office, or, in the US, the Federal Trade Commission or your state attorney general.
Children
A parent or guardian adds a child and agrees to this policy on the child's behalf. We collect only a first name, a buddy picture, a class and the child's quiz answers. Parents can review and delete this at any time. If you believe a child has given us information without a parent's knowledge, contact oluwafolakemiolanrewaju@gmail.com and we will remove it.
The focus report only counts how often the quiz window was left. It does not record the screen, camera, microphone or other apps.
Cookies and storage
We use only what is needed to keep you signed in, and your browser's temporary storage to hold a quiz in progress. We also remember on your device whether you turned "Read aloud" on, and keep copies of the website's own pages and files so a quiz can still load if your connection drops. Quiz questions and answers are never stored this way. Read aloud uses your device's built-in voice, so nothing you hear is sent to us or anyone else. We do not use advertising or third-party analytics cookies.
Security
Quiz answers are kept on our servers and are not sent to the browser until a quiz is submitted. Access to data is limited to your account. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the version number above and ask you to accept it again.
